BOSTON — Red Sox reliever Edward Mujica, who has been dealing with right oblique discomfort, threw a bullpen session Tuesday at Fenway Park.

Mujica felt a pinch in his side while warming up in the bullpen before the ninth inning of Saturday’s game against the Oakland Athletics. The right-hander threw from 90 feet Sunday, received treatment during Monday’s off-day and looks poised to avoid the disabled list, according to Red Sox manager John Farrell.

“We needed to get him on the mound, to test and see where he is. … But the mound test today will be an important one,” Farrell said before Tuesday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds.

WEEI.com’s Alex Speier later reported that Mujica experienced no discomfort in his ailing oblique during Tuesday’s bullpen, all but confirming that the Red Sox have dodged a bullet with the veteran reliever.
