If any NFL team could use a spark on offense, it’s the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Jags scored an abysmal 15.4 points per game in 2013, good for last in the NFL, and were one of just two teams (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) to average less than 300 yards per game.
A playmaker like Johnny Manziel could provide a solution to those woes. According to a report by the Denver Post’s Mike Klis, the Texas A&M quarterback landing in Jacksonville is a very real possibility.
“One NFL source close to the draftable quarterback situation said the buzz is Johnny Manziel going to Jacksonville with the Jaguars’ No. 3 overall pick,” Klis writes.
Klis adds that the Cleveland Browns, who own the No. 4 pick, likely would take University of Central Florida quarterback Blake Bortles in that scenario.
Manziel and Bortles have ranked very high on NFL mock drafts, but many reports have Johnny Football heading to Cleveland, not Jacksonville. Still, Klis notes that Manziel could be a good fit under Jags head coach Gus Bradley, who worked with Pete Carroll and the Russell Wilson-led Seattle Seahawks before taking over in Jacksonville.
There also has been talk of Manziel staying in Texas to play for the Dallas Cowboys, but Cowboys owner Jerry Jones put a wet blanket on those rumors Tuesday.
“I will go as far as to say it is not our primary goal in the first round to be looking at a quarterback,” Jones told ESPN. “We’ve got a good one.”
