The New York Knicks will be forced to continue their search for a head coach because Steve Kerr has accepted a five-year, $25 million offer to become the Golden State Warriors’ next coach, according to ESPN. com, per multiple sources.
It was largely assumed that Kerr would join new team president Phil Jackson in New York, especially given their relationship. But the Warriors began pursuing him much more aggressively when their other top candidate, Stan Van Gundy, signed with Detroit, ESPN reports.
Kerr, the former Phoenix Suns general manager who won five championships as a player, will replace Mark Jackson, who was fired after Golden State’s first-round playoff loss to the Los Angeles Clippers.
Kerr is also a Southern California native, and he reportedly told sources he chose Golden State for family reasons.
