Rice Lands Quarterback Recruit By Sending Letter To His Cat (Photo)

Cats, so hot right now.

First, there was the viral video of the so-called “hero cat” in California, who saved a young kid from a stray dog (and earned the chance to throw out the first pitch at a Minor League Baseball game in the process).

Now, the Houston Chronicle brings us the story of Rice University scoring a sought-after Texas high school quarterback named J.T. Granato by sending a recruiting letter to his pet, Kitty.

“As you know we’re trying to convince J.T. Rice is the place for him,” the letter, penned by Owls co-offensive coordinator Billy Lynch, read. “I know you’d like to keep him close so he can feed you and change the litter box. Please help us to get him to choose us. Paw me if you have any questions.”

Corny? Absolutely. But it apparently was enough to woo Granato, who announced his commitment Thursday on Twitter.

Granato threw for 3,500 yards and 42 touchdowns to lead Kinkaid High School to an undefeated season in 2013. Houston, Maryland, Southern Miss, Kansas and Indiana were among the other suitors for the 6-foot-3 signal-caller.
