Shane Vereen: Tom Brady Is Timeless; Vince Wilfork Scariest Patriot

Shane Vereen, Kawann ShortTom Brady is not one of the “old guys” in the New England Patriots’ locker room, and even if he is, running back Shane Vereen wouldn’t admit it.

Vereen told “PFW in Progress” on Thursday that Brady, Vince Wilfork and Jerod Mayo are the leaders in the locker room, which should come as no surprise. Vereen was asked whether Brady is one of the “old guys” — the quarterback is the oldest player on the team, after all — to which the third-year running back replied laughing, “Ooh, this is dangerous.”

“No, I’d say Tom is one of those timeless-type guys,” Vereen continued. “He’s up to date with all the stuff that we’re into, so in that sense, he’s not old. He works out just like anybody else, he hangs in there just like anybody else, he pushes himself.”

Vereen was asked which player he’s most afraid of, and he answered “Vince” without hesitation.

“If he gets you, yeah,” Vereen trailed off. “At least if like, Jerod or the DBs get me, I’ve got speed behind me, I’ve got some sort of force. And once he gets the hand around the jersey, it’s, yeah,” he trailed off again.

Vereen’s brother, Minnesota’s Brock Vereen, is a top safety prospect in the 2014 NFL draft. The Patriots running back said Brock, who at 6 feet, 196 pounds ran the 40-yard dash in 4.45 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine, is a better athlete and smarter than he is.

Vereen is trying to prep his brother for the draft, since he was a “nervous wreck” going through the process in 2011.
