Wes Welker bought a racehorse back in 2012 and held a Twitter contest for fans to name it.
Welker promised the lucky fan whose name was chosen an all-expenses-paid trip to one of the horse’s races, where they’d spend the day with the then-New England Patriots wide receiver. New Jersey resident Nick Boyle won the contest with the name Move the Chains.
But TMZ Sports reported Thursday that Boyle never received his prize.
Apparently, someone else got the naming rights for Move the Chains, so Welker used the name Undrafted instead. However, Welker sent Boyle a personal direct message saying he still would get his trip. Welker even apologized for the delay, saying that once he figured out a race they could both attend, he would “have the whole trip taken care of.”
But now, after two years, Boyle told TMZ not only did he not get that trip, but Welker also stopped communicating with him and even unfollowed him on Twitter.
“I’ve been disappointed for two years,” Boyle said. “When I won the contest, I was really looking forward to naming the horse and hanging out with Wes at the track. He screwed me. I did nothing wrong.”
TMZ said it reached out to Welker, who’s now with the Denver Broncos, but he has yet to comment.
