aaron-hernandez2Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was briefly taken to the hospital for treatment of a “medical issue” this weekend, Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson confirmed on Sunday.

Hernandez was transported from the Bristol County House of Corrections in Dartmouth, Mass. to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford late Saturday morningĀ in what Hodgson called a “routine” procedure.

Hodgson added that the entire trip lasted about an hour and insisted that whatever Hernandez’sĀ issue was, it didn’t involve a fight or altercation.

Hernandez is being held without bail for the June 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd as well as the July 2012 double murder of Safiro Furtado and Daniel de Abreu.

On Friday, the former tight end’s lawyer requested Hernandez’s transfer from the Bristol County jail, citing the long distance between the jail and the location of Hernandez’s legal counsel.
