New York Mets pitcher Bartolo Colon accomplished the seemingly impossible Wednesday afternoon as he recorded his first hit in nearly nine years.
Colon has struggled mightily — and hilariously — at the plate in his return to the National League this season, going hitless in 46 plate appearances with 17 strikeouts. Until now, that is.
After countless whiffs and hearty cuts that looked like they could cause him serious injury, Colon finally notched his first hit of the season, ripping a double down the left field line against St. Louis Cardinals starter Lance Lynn.

That’s right, Colon made his first hit since 2005 worth the wait, legging out a stand-up double much to the delight of his teammates who were cheering him on in the dugout. Colon even cracked a smile, but his time on the basepaths wasn’t over yet.
The next batter up, Eric Young Jr., roped a double into right field that scored the presumably exhausted Colon.
Colon also allowed just one run on four hits over eight innings during the Mets’ 3-2 win over the Cardinals, so it really might have been the best day of the veteran’s life.
