Daniel Nava, Ben CheringtonJackie Bradley Jr. and Grady Sizemore have struggled to hit. Shane Victorino has struggled to stay healthy. Brock Holt hasn’t struggled, but he’s not really an outfielder, either.

The Boston Red Sox have some weaknesses in their outfield, and general manager Ben Cherington realizes that. As he told multiple media outlets Tuesday, Cherington will look to bolster the outfield if he makes any moves before the July 31 trade deadline.

Cherington apparently likes the “core” of players in the Red Sox clubhouse, which brought back the vast majority of players from last season’s World Series championship team. He reiterated his support for Bradley, who has performed up to major league standards defensively despite his problems at the plate.

In an interview Tuesday morning, Cherington also told Sirius XM radio that contract negotiations with Jon Lester are holding, with “nothing planned” for the team to approach the free-agent-to-be about a new contract.

Check out some more of what Cherington had to say about the matter in the video below.
