The Boston Red Sox announced the signings of nine 2014 draft picks Tuesday.
Right-hander Michael Kopech, a first-round pick (No. 33 overall) out of Mt. Pleasant High School in Texas, and first baseman Sam Travis, a second-round pick (No. 67 overall) out of Indiana University, were among the nine players signed.
Kopech went 3-0 with a 0.44 ERA over 11 appearances this season. He tied for the lead among Division 4A pitchers with 129 strikeouts in just 64 innings and was named a First-Team Perfect Game All-American.
Travis is said to have great power. He hit .347 (85-for-245) with 12 home runs, 58 RBIs and 16 doubles in 59 games as a junior this year. Travis was named a 2014 First-Team All-Big Ten selection and a Second-Team Louisville Slugger All-American while guiding Indiana to a Big Ten championship.
The others who signed with the Red Sox include right-hander Chandler Shepherd (13th round), third baseman Jordan Betts (18th round), center fielder Derek Miller (23rd round), catcher Alex McKeon (31st round), right-hander Kuehl McEachern (34th round), shortstop Hector Lorenzana (37th round) and right-hander Brandon Show (38th round).
Red Sox director of amateur scouting Amiel Sawdaye announced the signings via a press release.
