California Chrome co-owner Steve Coburn appears to have cooled down a bit after this weekend.

After the Belmont Stakes concluded on Saturday afternoon, Coburn was angry about his horse losing out on the coveted Triple Crown. He felt that Tonalist, the winning horse, should not have been allowed to race because it was not part of the Kentucky Derby or Preakness. Tonalist could not compete in the Derby because it had a lung infection prior to the qualifying run.

But Monday morning, Coburn was singing a different tune. He and his wife appeared on “Good Morning America” to apologize for his post-race comments.

“I’m very ashamed of myself, very ashamed,” Coburn said on the show. “I need to apologize to a lot of people.”

Fighting back tears for a lot of the interview, Coburn went on to apologize to the winning horse and its owners, even calling Tonalist’s win a “beautiful race.”

Check out the video below for his teary-eyed apology.
