One of the most memorable moments from the Academy Award winning movie “Rocky” is when Philadelphia underdog Rocky Balboa embraces his girlfriend Adrian in the ring after taking Apollo Creed the distance.
It might very well be the most romantic moment in boxing history. However, IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch may have something to say about that.
After knocking out George Groves for the second time to retain his IBF super middleweight title at Wembley Stadium, Froch got down on one knee in the middle of the ring and asked his model girlfriend, Rachael Cordingley, to marry him.
While Froch did not scream, “Adrian!” (or in this case, “Rachael!”) like Rocky did on the big screen, it was still a touching and unforgettable moment for the champion and his sweetheart.
The boxing ring, however, was the only ring involved in the proposal. According to Froch, this was not an official proposal because he hasn’t gotten his future wife a rock to put on her finger yet. That said, Froch and Cordingley are unofficially engaged and the two will hope to stand at the alter together soon.
The 36-year old champion, who is also known as “The Cobra”, and Rachael have two children together.
