Chad Johnson is back on the football field.
The wide receiver, who last played in the NFL for the New England Patriots in 2011, now is catching passes north of the border.
Johnson signed a deal with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League in April and made his debut with the club Saturday.
There were no touchdown celebration antics on this day, but Johnson was able to reel in two catches for 20 yards. Those were the wideout’s first receptions since Super Bowl XLVI, when he caught one pass against the New York Giants.
After the game was over, Johnson admitted he’s not completely back into the shape just yet.
“I’ve got a long way to go, man,” Johnson said, via TSN.ca. “With this being my first time experiencing a real live game with the bullets flying, the level of competition is really not that far off from the NFL and the speed of the game is equivalent.”
Johnson was not the only ex-NFL player to be play in the game — Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith suited up as Montreal’s quarterback. Even with the NFL duo, the Alouettes fell to the Calgary Stampeders 29-8.
