With the score knotted at one, Clint Dempsey converted a huge goal off his body to give Team USA a 2-1 lead against Portugal in the 81st minute at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Initially, it appeared that Dempsey might have been offside, but replays showed that he was barely behind the defender. Either way, the goal counted and the Americans took the lead momentarily before Silvestre Varela of Portugal tied it up in the last minute of stoppage time.

This was Dempsey’s fourth career goal in eight World Cup matches.

The United States was trailing 1-0 at halftime, but a Jermaine Jones goal evened up the score before Dempsey’s goal gave the Red, White and Blue the lead.
