Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Jon Lester had no trouble shutting down the top offense in the American League on Sunday.
The southpaw cruised in the series finale against the Oakland Athletics, surrendering just two earned runs and four hits over 7 2/3 innings. Lester exited the game with the Sox holding onto a commanding 6-1 lead, but a late Oakland surge eventually forced extra innings.
Although Lester earned a no-decision on the day, his stellar outing wasn’t completely spoiled. David Ortiz went deep in the 10th inning to give the Red Sox the win.
