We’ll try to keep this story relatively spoiler-free for those of you who haven’t seen the latest episode of HBO’s “Game of Thrones.”
The episode, entitled “The Watchers on the Wall,” used a great deal of CGI to create one of the most expansive battle scenes in the show’s history, but employed real-life actors to play the hour’s most imposing figures: giants. And, as it turns out, one of those actors was a man college basketball fans might remember.

That’s Neil Fingleton, a British-born former McDonald’s All-American who earned the title of England’s tallest man in 2007 by measuring in at 7 feet, 7.56 inches. Fingleton was a star at Holy Name Central Catholic High School after moving from England to Worcester, Mass., in the late 1990s, and he later went on to play college ball at North Carolina and Holy Cross.
The 33-year-old took up acting after bouncing around the European professional ranks and has since appeared in “X-Men: First Class” and “47 Ronin,” squaring off in a sword fight against Keanu Reeves in the latter. You can check out a clip of that battle right here.
