High school pitcher Brady Aiken has not even pitched a game in the Houston Astros organization yet, but that hasn’t stopped the team from selling merchandise with his name on it.
The Astros selected the left-hander out of Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego with the first overall pick in the 2014 MLB first-year player draft Thursday night, making him just the third lefty ever from the high school ranks — and the first since 1991 — to be taken with the top pick. Shortly after Aiken was selected, a jersey bearing his name became available in Houston.

The hard-throwing 17-year-old just finished his senior season at Cathedral Catholic, going 7-0 and striking out 111 hitters in just under 59 2/3 innings of work. He also was essential to Team USA claiming the 18-and-Under World Baseball Cup, striking out 10 batters in the gold medal game against Japan..
Though he has an impressive body of work, Aiken has yet to sign a contract with Houston, so fans might want to hold off on buying his jersey for the time being.
