Before the New York Rangers and Los Angeles Kings began the 2014 Stanley Cup Final, ticket prices for the series were absurdly high.
But now, with the Kings just one win away from a sweep, prices are … well, they’re still absurdly high, but they have dropped precipitously.
The cheapest tickets available for Game 4 were selling for $955 before the start of Game 3 on Monday, Time.com reported, citing data from ticket site TiqIQ. After the game, which the Rangers lost 3-0 to fall behind three games to none in the series, that price tag fell to $548 — a 42.6 percent decrease.
Game 4 tickets were available for as little as $417 on StubHub as of 2:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday, and TiqIQ’s Chris Matchovich expects prices to nosedive even further before the puck drops for the potential series clincher Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden.
“The quantity (of tickets) is not extremely high, so I expect them to fall some more, maybe $300s,” Matchovich said in an email to Time. “The crazier thing is a lot of people spent $1,000 to $1,100 earlier this week for this game. Now they wake up this morning and the value of their ticket has plummeted.”
No team has won the Stanley Cup after falling behind 3-0 since the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1942 — a feat the Rangers will have to recreate if they wish to break their Cup drought.
