Los Angeles just won the Stanley Cup and is doing what it can to keep all the Kings’ men together.
The team announced Wednesday that it has re-signed forward Marian Gaborik to a seven-year contract. Gaborik was set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, but according to reports, his new deal is worth $34 million and has an annual salary-cap hit of just under $5 million per season.
The seven-year deal is a little surprising for a player who’s 32, but Gaborik certainly played well after the Columbus Blue Jackets sent him to the Kings at the NHL trade deadline. He scored five goals and added 11 assists in 19 regular-season games with the Kings, then took his game to an entirely different level in the playoffs. The six-time All-Star led the league with 14 goals to go along with eight assists and was a vital part of L.A.’s second Stanley Cup title in three years.
Gaborik was happy to share the news Wednesday.

The Kings have been busy so far this offseason, as they’ve already re-signed defenseman Matt Greene to a four-year deal and decided not to use a buyout on forward Mike Richards.
