The Boston Red Sox seemed to be headed for another disappointing loss Wednesday afternoon at Fenway Park.

Starter John Lackey pitched nine shutout innings, surrendering just three hits and one walk while striking out nine. But Minnesota Twins starter Kyle Gibson was just as dominant, and neither team could plate a run through nine innings.

Boston closer Koji Uehara’s 21-inning scoreless streak ended at the worst time, as he gave up a solo blast to Chris Parmelee in the 10th. But it took the Red Sox just three batters in the bottom of the 10th to turn things around.

With one out, David Ortiz curled his 16th homer of the season around Pesky’s Pole, ensuring the Red Sox would have a chance to stay alive.

Then one batter later, Mike Napoli launched another solo shot — his seventh home run of the season — over the center field wall to cap the Red Sox’s sweep in exciting fashion.

The win puts the Red Sox at 34-38 heading into a seven-game West Coast road trip where they’ll meet the Oakland A’s and Seattle Mariners.
