Canadians sure do love their hockey.

While the summer months are normally reserved for baseball, two independent-league teams will pay homage to our northern neighbor’s national pastime with some sweet throwback uniforms that honor their respective cities’ hockey roots.

The Quebec Capitales of the CanAm League will host a “Soiree Hockey” night Wednesday when they take on the St. Paul Saints in Quebec City. For the occasion, the Capitales will wear jerseys with a Quebec Nordiques theme, while the Saints will don Minnesota North Stars-themed threads.

As you might expect, these jerseys are awesome. The Nordiques last played in 1995 before becoming the Colorado Avalanche, while the North Stars shortened their name and moved to Dallas in 1993. The jerseys of both teams are timeless, though, and the Capitales and Saints do a nice job of giving a baseball vibe to the throwback threads.

As for where these jerseys rank among the best minor league uniforms of 2014, that’s up to you to decide.
