Karsten WhitsonThe 2014 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft ended Saturday. The Boston Red Sox made 30 selections in Rounds 11-40 on the final day.

The Red Sox selected 18 pitchers (15 right-handers, three left-handers), 10 infielders, seven outfielders and six catchers overall in this year’s draft.  Of the 41 players drafted, 16 are from high school and 25 are from college.

“We think this year’s draft added a great potential crop of talent to our organization,” Red Sox director of amateur scouting Amiel Sawdaye said in a press release. “Our entire scouting department worked tirelessly to prepare for these last three days, and we are eager to begin to develop the pitchers and position players we’ve selected.”

The Red Sox began their 2014 draft by selecting shortstop Michael Chavis 26th overall. Boston also selected right-hander Michael Kopech (33) and first baseman Sam Travis (67) on Day 1.
