Ryan LavarnwayRyan Lavarnway made his major league debut at first base on May 29 after switching from catcher, but he won’t play there again any time soon.

The Boston Red Sox announced Thursday that they transferred Lavarnway from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list with a fractured wrist. Lavarnway sustained the injury during that May 29 game against the Atlanta Braves.

The move made room for the Red Sox to activate knuckleballer Steven Wright from the 60-day DL, where he had landed after surgery for a sports hernia. The team then optioned Wright to Triple-A Pawtucket.

UPDATE (10:37 p.m.): Wright threw seven shutout innings Thursday night, but he didn’t factor in the decision as the PawSox lost to the host Durham Bulls 2-0. Wright allowed four hits and three walks and struck out seven.
