BostonBoston hoping to host an Olympics may seem like a pipe dream, but the Hub’s bid is reportedly still alive.

The Boston Globe reports that Boston is on the United States Olympic Committee’s “short list” of potential host cities for the 2024 Summer Olympics. That doesn’t mean Boston is anywhere near making an official bid, but getting to this point is noteworthy.

The committee met earlier this week in Cambridge, Mass., to discuss possible host cities for the ’24 Games. That meeting was to shorten the list of potential cities, and according to the Globe, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. are on that list.

The USOC will now spend the next year looking at Boston and the other finalists, examining the cities’ capabilities to host the Olympics. If the USOC sees something it likes in one of those cities, they would then present that bid which would compete against cities from around the world for the rights to host the 2024 Olympics. The final decision will be made in 2017, according to the Globe.
