Jason Kidd’s brief tenure as head coach of the Brooklyn Nets is officially over.
Sources told ESPN’s Marc Stein on Monday that the Milwaukee Bucks will send two second-round picks to the Nets to acquire Kidd and make him the next head coach of their franchise.
Charles F. Gardner of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that the Nets will get a second-round selection in the 2015 NBA draft and another second-round pick in 2018 or 2019. A source told ESPN earlier on Monday that the Nets insisted on getting a first-round pick in exchange for Kidd, but the addition of another second-round pick was apparently enough to convince Brooklyn to part with its 41-year-old coach.
Kidd will take over in Milwaukee in the place of head coach Larry Drew, whose status remains unclear after he signed a three-year contract with the Bucks with an option for a fourth year in May 2013.
Kidd will have his hands full in just his second year as an NBA head coach for a Bucks team that finished with the worst record in the league last season with just 15 wins. Milwaukee has potential upside, however, with the emergence of Greek forward Giannis Antetokounmpo and the selection of Duke star Jabari Parker with the second overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft.
Whether the 10-time NBA All-Star can repeat the success he had in Brooklyn, though, remains to be seen.
