The Miami Dolphins have four new players, two of them rookies, slated to start on their offensive line next season.
It now could be five new players as ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported per sources that Pro Bowl center Mike Pouncey had hip surgery Monday and could miss at least three months.
According to other reports, sources say Pouncey tore a labrum in his hip and that three months is the “absolute minimum” for recovery. This means the earliest Pouncey can return is Week 4 against the Oakland Raiders.
Pouncey is the only starting offensive lineman left from last year’s Dolphins team, and his loss will definitely hurt quarterback Ryan Tannehill and the team’s pass protection.
The center, whose twin brother Maurkice Pouncey plays for the Pittsburgh Steelers, made the Pro Bowl in 2013 but had a controversial season last year. He allegedly was involved in the Richie Incognito-Jonathan Martin bullying scandal and was seen wearing a “Free (Aaron) Hernandez” shirt.
