Kevin LoveThe Kevin Love sweepstakes grow moreĀ intriguing by the day.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the Golden State Warriors were in play for Love, as they appeared willing to give up guard Klay Thompson in a potential deal for the All-Star. But ESPN reported Saturday, via sources close to the process, that some in the Warriors’ organization want to keep Thompson, causingĀ trade negotiations with the Minnesota Timberwolves to stall.

Warriors general manager Bob Myers said Friday that he believes a deal for Love will not happen this offseason.

“Right now, I think it’s unlikely,” Myers told local reporters. “Right now. Today.”

Many in the Golden State organization were willing to part with Thompson if it meant acquiring Love, but two key personnel in the organization — coach Steve Kerr and consultant Jerry WestĀ — are against dealing the guard.

Love heading to Golden State might not be completely out of the question, however. The Los Angeles Times reported Saturday that the Lakers are interested in working their way into a possible three-way trade. Los Angeles is said to be offering the No. 7 overall pick in the draft to the Timberwolves. In that scenario, the Lakers would acquire Thompson, whose father, Mychal, used to play for the organization and now is a radio analyst for the team.

If the Warriors are not going to deal for Love, that leaves the Boston Celtics as one of the teams with a chance to land the power forward. It was reported Thursday that the Celtics had the best offer on the table.
