The chances that Miami Heat star LeBron James opts out of his contract and becomes a free agent are slim, but the fact that the possibility exists hasĀ at least one team preparing for it.
The Houston Rockets are reportedly trying to land James and New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony in the event that both choose to become free agents. ESPN’s Marc Stein tweeted that their interest in James and AnthonyĀ is the reason whyĀ the RocketsĀ haven’t been in the hunt for Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love.
While Houston would certainly be an intriguing option for James with Dwight Howard, James HardenĀ and Chandler Parsons on the roster, Bleacher Report’s Howard Beck says the chances of James becoming a free agent are only around 40 percent.
Anthony’s free agency is all but certain at this point, butĀ the Rockets would need to clear out quite a bit of cap space to acquire both of them.
Though the whole situation still seems unlikely at this point, it’s not stopping the Rockets from making a major push for having the best starting five in theĀ NBA.
