The New England Revolution were itching to resume MLS play Saturday after a three-week league-wide break for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, but they suffered a 3-1 loss at the hands of the Philadelphia Union.
Philadelphia’s Sebastian Le Toux made the score 1-0 at the end of the first half, and Teal Bunbury missed a chance to score the equalizer in the 52nd minute. Things only got worse for the Revs from there, as Danny Cruz made it 2-0 shortly after in the 69th minute.
Saer Sene scored his first league goal four minutes later to give the Revs a fighting chance, but it took just five minutes for Le Toux to put an end to that with another goal.
The Revs have now lost three straight league contests after winning five straight and going unbeaten in seven.
