2014 hasn’t been the best year for determining what’s fair and what’s foul.

Just two months into the season, we’ve already seen a Baltimore Orioles ball girl mistakenly snag a fair ball and New York Yankees star Derek Jeter nearly toss a fair ball into the stands.

A Kansas City Royals ball boy became the latest victim Sunday when he fielded a fair ball down the right field line and handed it to a fan in the stands, allowing Yankees second baseman Brian Roberts to advance to second base for a ground-rule double.

This ball boy would not be fooled again, though. During the next half-inning, Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas ripped a ball down the right field line that clearly was called foul, but the ball boy didn’t budge an inch, electing to watch the ball roll by him into the corner.

Well played, Royals ball boy. Inspired by the smarts of its sideline protector, Kansas City went on to beat New York 2-1.
