The reigning World Cup champions were sent packing after being eliminated in the first round Monday, but their disastrous tournament run in Brazil wasn’t the only shocking thing to occur to them.

While flying back to Madrid, the commercial jet that most of the players were flying on was struck by lightning just before landing, according to The Associated Press.

“A spokeswoman for airline Iberia SA said the lightning strike Tuesday caused no damage and that the jet landed normally without any injuries to those aboard,” The AP reported.

Good luck finding another team who had a rougher time at the 2014 FIFA World Cup than Spain.
