Houston Texans offensive lineman David Quessenberry received a scary diagnosis after experiencing “fatigue and a persistent cough” over the past week.
The second-year pro was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma and placed on the non-football illness list, the Texans announced Tuesday. Quessenberry is being treated at M.D. Anderson Hospital, The Houston Chronicle Reported.
“Our medical community here in Houston is the best in the world,” Texans general manager Rick Smith said in a statement. “We are extremely confident in the care and treatment David will receive. He is a fighter and a courageous young man and we look forward to his full and complete recovery. We will continue to support him and his family and look forward to his return to the team. “
Quessenberry was drafted in the sixth round (No. 176 overall) of the 2013 NFL draft out of San Jose State. He was placed on injured reserve in September last season after suffering a foot injury.
New England Patriots offensive lineman Marcus Cannon has continued his football career after being diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma at the NFL Scouting Combine in 2011. Cannon started the 2011 season on the non-football illness list before being removed prior to Week 11. Cannon played in seven games during his rookie season.
