Minnesota Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway experienced a different kind of offseason workout earlier this week.

Crystal and Edward Alexis found themselves stranded and unable to control their newly purchased boat Monday as high winds whipped the surface of Lake Minnetonka. They began drifting toward a dam and a dangerous section of rocks when Greenway stepped in to help.

“I just ran down, of course with my two little girls following behind me, trying to stay out of the way, and I figured I’d help them out,” Greenway told KARE 11. “It looked like it was dangerous.”

Greenway waded into the water, pushed the boat to safety and remained with it until the sheriff’s department arrived.

“The waves are so big and the wind is so strong … that it pushed him right into the rocks, so we had to get him off the rocks, his prop cleared out of the rope, and get him turned in the right direction,” Greenway said.

Both of the boaters made it safely to shore and were extremely grateful for the linebacker’s assistance. It wasn’t enough to make Edward Alexis change his NFL allegiance, though.

“I’m a Chicago Bears fan,” he said with a laugh. “I’m just going to keep it real.”
