Baltimore Orioles center fielder Adam Jones has one of the best throwing arms in Major League Baseball.

So when Oakland Athletics batter Josh Donaldson hit a shallow line drive in Jones’ direction with runners on first and third and one out, everyone expected a close play at the plate with the runner tagging from third.

Everybody except for Adam Jones, that is.

Jones apparently thought he had made the third out, because he started jogging casually toward the dugout after catching Donaldson’s line drive. Meanwhile, a rather confused Yoenis Cespedes trotted home from third and crossed the plate before Jones realized his mistake.

Jones certainly is not the first player to commit the mental mishap, and he still would have needed an accurate throw to nab Cespedes at the plate.

Still, his moment of forgetfulness didn’t come at the best time, as the run gave the A’s a 3-0 lead. Oakland went on to score seven more runs en route to a 10-2 win that Jones probably would like to forget.

Fortunately, Jones has a good sense of humor, and he took to Twitter after the game to poke fun at his momentary memory lapse.
