Alfredo Aceves’ season has gone from bad to worse.
Aceves was suspended 50 games on Thursday for a positive drug test, Major League Baseball announced.
The veteran right-hander was suspended for a “drug of abuse,” which comes with the 50-game ban. Because Aceves is in the minor leagues, he’s subject to “drug of abuse” testing. Big leaguers aren’t subject to “drug of abuse testing,” only to PED testing. Aceves’ test could have been positive from a range of things such as marijuana, cocaine, heroin, etc.
The 31-year-old was designated for assignment by the New York Yankees in early June. As a result, he was sent down to Triple-A Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and taken off the 40-man roster. The former Boston Red Sox hurler posted a 1-2 record with a 6.52 ERA in the majors this year before being sent down.
Now, he won’t be posting any kinds of numbers for the next few months.
