Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo entered Tuesday night’s game with 23 home runs, tied with Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton for the National League lead.
Rizzo homered twice against the San Diego Padres, putting himself fourth in all of baseball in long balls, but what he did before the game might be the most impressive part.
Rizzo promised 22-year-old cancer patient Mike Kasallis before the game that he’d hit a home run. Rizzo did Mike one better, however, and belted two.

Kasallis, who has been diagnosed with leukemia, celebrated his 22nd birthday Wednesday. Rizzo told Cubs play-by-play announcer Len Kasper that he’d make a special gesture toward Kasallis as he crossed the plate, which he did both times he homered.
