Zach MettenbergerNothing says welcome to your new city like being punched in the face.

According to The Tennessean, former LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger, who was selected by the Tennessee Titans in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL Draft, was sucker-punched by a University of Alabama fan while hanging out at Loser’s Most Wanted Bar & Grill in Nashville over the weekend.

The owner of Loser’s, Steve Ford, told The Tennessean that Mettenberger did nothing to provoke the attack besides simply replying to the man’s friend after he uttered the Crimson Tide’s rallying cry.

“Here’s the truth: The guy said something about ‘Roll Tide!’ to Zach, and Zach turned around and said ‘Good luck with that,’ ” Ford said Monday, via The Tennessean. “And the guy’s buddy then sucker-punched Zach.

“I promise you that Mettenberger did not throw a punch. He didn’t do anything. The guy sucker-punched him in the eye, that’s the bottom line, and the guy that punched him started running out the door. My door guys had to chase him down.”

Neither Mettenberg nor the bar have decided to press charges. Although it was rumored that the signal-caller broke his hand in the incident, Mettenberg told The Tennessean that was a “bogus rumor” as he did not require any medical attention.

“It is what it is and it’s over. No one is pressing charges,” Ford said. “It shouldn’t have happened to begin with. The guy said ‘Roll Tide.’ He tried to provoke him. But Zach did not throw one punch, period. I was standing right next to him.”

Mettenberg will report to Titans training camp Friday.
