Tuesday’s 7-1 shellacking at the hands of the Germans was a national tragedy for Brazil, crushing the host country’s dreams of World Cup glory in the the most painful way imaginable.
It was one of the worst losses in the histories of both Brazilian soccer and the World Cup, challenged only by the infamous “Maracanazo” — a 2-1 loss to Uruguay in the 1950 World Cup final.
