The Boston Bruins have signed defenseman David Warsofsky to a one-year, two-way contract, the team announced Thursday. His salary at the NHL level is $600,000.
“I knew after the season that I was going to be a restricted free agent and at some point would have to start talking, and I think the talks were pretty smooth,” Warsofsky said. “I think both sides were on the same page and it’s nice to get it done early in the summer and kind of focus on your training for the rest of the summer, and skating, and getting ready for training camp. So it’s good to get it out of the way and not have to worry about it anymore.”
The 24-year-old spent most of the 2013-14 season with the Providence Bruins of the AHL. He tallied 32 points (six goals, 26 assists) in 54 games for the P-Bruins, but he also played six games with Boston, posting two points (one goal, one assist).
On July 1, Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli included Warsofsky in the organization’s group of nine NHL-caliber defenseman.
Warsofsky was the 95th overall selection (fourth round) in the 2008 NHL draft by the St. Louis Blues, who traded him to the Bruins in 2010 for Vladimir Sobotka. Warsofsky played college hockey at Boston University.
