Red Sox Prospects Deven Marrero, Miguel Celestino Promoted To Pawtucket

Two of the Boston Red Sox’s top prospects were promoted Wednesday, with Pawtucket as their next stop.

Infielder Deven Marrero and pitcher Miguel Celestino were elevated from Double-A Portland to Triple-A Pawtucket, the team announced. Marrero will be in the lineup at shortstop Wednesday night against Rochester and and hit ninth.

Marrero, Boston’s 2012 first-round draft pick out of Arizona State, is ranked by SoxProspects.com as the organization’s No. 8 prospect. He has moved through the system quickly and earned the call-up after a nice showing this season in Portland. The 23-year-old was hitting .291 with five home runs and 39 RBIs to go with an .804 OPS at the time of his promotion. Marrero projects as a solid middle infielder upon reaching the big leagues.

Celestino is a tall (6-foot-6) right-handed reliever who throws hard. According to SoxProspects.com, his fastball touches triple digits and sits in the 94- to 96-mph range. He made 23 relief appearances for Portland this season and allowed 25 hits in 29 1/3 innings, with 34 strikeouts and just eight walks.
