After firing Atletico Madrid to its first La Liga (Spanish first division) title in 18 years, Diego Costa is off to greener pastures.
Chelsea officially signed Costa on Tuesday, inking the striker to a five-year contract, according to ESPN.
“I am very happy to sign for Chelsea,” Costa told Chelsea’s website. “Everybody knows it is a big club in a very competitive league, and I am very excited to get started in England with a fantastic coach and teammates.
“Having played against Chelsea last season I know the high quality of the squad I am joining.
“I would like to thank everybody at Atletico who made me into the player I am, it was an incredible time for me, but now I am starting a new adventure and I hope to win many trophies with Chelsea.”
The news comes a few weeks after Chelsea and Atletico Madrid agreed on the transfer fee worth around £32 million ($43 million) for the 25-year-old.
Costa was booed throughout the 2014 FIFA World Cup because he played for Spain rather than his native Brazil. Costa was unable to help Spain progress from the group stage of the tournament.
That said, Costa scored 36 goals (in all competitions) for Atletico Madrid last season, leading it to domestic glory and the 2014 UEFA Champions League final where it lost to Real Madrid in extra time.
Costa joins Spain teammate Cesc Fabregas, who was recently signed by the Blues, among the latest arrivals at Stamford Bridge.
