Michael Jordan On LeBron James’ Number Change: ‘I’m Cool With It’

Michael JordanLeBron James has received the blessing from Michael Jordan to wear No. 23 in his second stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

“I’m cool with it,” Jordan told ESPN via text. “I don’t own a number.”

LeBron wore No. 23 in high school and during his first seven years with the Cavs, but changed it to No. 6 as a tribute to MJ after signing with the Miami Heat in 2010.

Now he’s going back to his original number, he and didn’t ask Jordan for any sort of permission either. Fortunately for him and people who don’t want to see any drama between two NBA stars and their jersey numbers, Jordan doesn’t care.

Interestingly, Jordan played the same numbers game in his career when he changed his number from 23 to 45 and then back to 23.

Perhaps he understands James’ affinity with the No. 23 and that’s why he was so understanding.

Meanwhile, Adidas is hard at work making as many LeBron jerseys as it can before the new season starts.
