Mike Carp might not be a member of the Boston Red Sox by the time the weekend rolls around, but for now, he’s in the lineup.
Carp, who confirmed Saturday that he has requested a trade, will start at first base and bat fifth as the Sox host the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday.
It will be Carp’s second start at first in the last three games, but consistent playing time has been a rarity for the 28-year-old this season. He’s appeared in just 39 of the Red Sox’s 106 games and struggled at the plate, batting .205 with a .289 slugging percentage.
Elsewhere in the lineup, Jackie Bradley Jr. and Christian Vazquez return after getting Monday night off. They didn’t miss much, as the Blue Jays jumped all over starter Clay Buchholz en route to a 14-1 steamrolling.
Going up against the Red Sox on Tuesday will be right-handed rookie Marcus Stroman, who shut Boston down last Thursday in one of the best performances of his young career. Stroman allowed one hit and walked two over seven shutout innings a 7-0 Jays win.
