Chris SaleTop-tier players are selected to Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game every summer. And every summer, strong candidates are left off both rosters. This year is no different.

Most notably, Chicago White Sox pitcher Chris Sale was not selected to the American League team. Though he missed some time because of injury, the left-hander has been absolutely dominant in 2014 with 96 strikeouts and a 2.16 ERA.

With great pitchers like Felix Hernandez, Jon Lester and Masahiro Tanaka on the roster, it was tough to find Sale a spot on the team. He still has a chance to make the squad, though — he’s a candidate for the AL’s Final Vote.
