The Boston Red Sox will try to snap their three-game losing streak in the second game of four against the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday and they’ll welcome Mookie Betts back into the lineup.
The Red Sox were shut out for the ninth time this season Monday in a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Chicago. The Red Sox only mustered two hits in the loss.
The two players who recorded hits in the loss, Jackie Bradley Jr. and A.J. Pierzynski, will both sit out Tuesday’s game. Betts will take Bradley’s spot in center field and hit ninth, and David Ross will get the start at catcher, hitting seventh.
Betts is 4-for-19 with a home run in five games with the Red Sox. Meanwhile, Ross hit a home run in his last start against Baltimore on Sunday.
Daniel Nava will also get the night off against White Sox lefty John Danks as Nava’s hitting only .097 against southpaws this season. Jonny Gomes will isntead get the start in left field and hit fifth.
David Ortiz will move to the three-spot in the Boston lineup after hitting clean-up over his last three starts. The lefty-lefty matchup against Danks has not fazed Big Papi throughout his career. He’s hitting .300 with two home runs and five RBIs in 20 at-bats against Danks.
On the mound for the Red Sox is Brandon Workman, who has lost his last two decisions and hasn’t won since June 10 at Baltimore.
