NBA teams will have slightly less payroll space than expected to play around with in free agency and trades this season.
The salary cap, luxury tax line and other team-related financial considerations were set Wednesday, with the totals coming in a bit lower than anticipated. The salary cap for the 2014-15 season will be $63.065 million, while the luxury tax line will be $76.829 million.
Speculation had predicted those numbers would be closer to $63.3 million and $77 million, respectively.
The league also announced the amounts of three types of mid-level exception allowed under the collective bargaining agreement. The non-taxpayer mid-level will be $5.305 million, the taxpayer mid-level will be $3.278 and the mid-level for teams with room under the salary cap will be $2.732.
The minimum team salary is $56.759 million, or 90 percent of the salary cap.
