Newspapers all over America had catchy and clever headlines Saturday to signify LeBron James’ return to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
But the New York Times might have outdone everyone else on the front page of its sports section.
The column box featuring all of the day’s sports transactions is centered on the page, with a bunch of white space surrounding it. Of course, the biggest sports transaction of the day is highlighted under the NBA section.
Simple yet bold.

Poor John Salmons. Who would have thought him being waived by the Atlanta Hawks would make the front of the New York Times?
Meanwhile, Shaun Livingston probably is bragging to friends and family about how he’s a big deal after signing with the Golden State Warriors and hitting the front page.
As an added bonus, Ohioans also get to see Brandon Dubinsky’s six-year contract extension with the Columbus Blue Jackets on the front page, too!
In all seriousness, though, this was a cool way to present LeBron’s big announcement, as it takes people back to the times before Twitter and the Internet, when the transaction column was vital to our daily sports news consumption.
