The Oakland Athletics were among the big winners of this year’s trade deadline, but that wasn’t the only victory the American League West leaders chalked up today.

While Billy Beane was off doing his thing to further improve the best team in baseball, his players were busy on Twitter, winning some points for best tweets of the day amid the flurry of action that occurred on Thursday.

The A’s woke up to a blockbuster trade this morning, learning that their team acquired left-hander Jon Lester and outfielder Jonny Gomes from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for Yoenis Cespedes, and the monster news certainly grabbed the attention of one Oakland pitcher.

Lester beefs up an already stacked starting rotation for Oakland, as he joins Jeff Samardzija, Scott Kazmir, Sonny Gray and Jason Hammel. With the addition of Lester, the Athletics now boast arguably the best pitching staff in baseball, which is a scary thought for their opposition, and outfielder Josh Reddick agrees.

It took them most of the day, but the Detroit Tigers also got in on the blockbuster trade action, as they landed left-hander David Price in a three-team trade, prompting Oakland closer Sean Doolittle to bust out this gem.

In other, not unsurprising news probably, the A’s had the day off Thursday.
