Patriots Release Tyler McDonald After Five Days With Team, Sign Greg Orton

Tyler McDonaldWide receiver Tyler McDonald didn’t last long with the New England Patriots.

The undrafted rookie wideout was released Wednesday, the team announced. The Patriots re-signed wide receiver Greg Orton to take McDonald’s spot on the 90-man roster.

This is Orton’s second stint with the Patriots. He was originally signed to the Patriots’ practice squad on Dec. 31, 2013 before being released May 22, 2014. Orton has also spent time with the Denver Broncos and Cincinnati Bengals.

Patriots training camp starts Thursday. The Patriots have 11 wide receivers on their roster, though Aaron Dobson, Matthew Slater and Jeremy Gallon will begin training camp on the physically unable to perform list.
