In the topĀ of the fifth inning Monday night, Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Jake Odorizzi struck out Milwaukee Brewers batter Scooter Gennett.

He then decided he had had enough of that inning and walked off the field.

Unfortunately for Odorizzi, though, there was still work to be done. While the Rays righthander apparently thought he had ended the inning, his strikeout of Gennett was onlyĀ the second out.

Fortunately, Odorizzi was able to save some face when catcher Jose Molina kindly informed him of the situation before he got all the way to the dugout.

Odorizzi is the second player in less than 10 days to commit the mental mishap, as Baltimore Orioles outfielder Adam Jones recently allowed a run to score after he forgot how many outs there were.

The Rays pitcher had better luck than Jones, however, as he returned to retire the last batter of the inning and gave up just one run over seven frames in his team’s 2-1 win.

Now that’s something to remember.
